About us.

A sense of belonging can begin with a place, a memory, or a story passed between generations.
SALAAM stands for Science, Art, Letters for Algerian-American Mosaic — a creative collective dedicated to celebrating Algerian-American identity, culture, and the diverse experiences of the diaspora.
Through art, storytelling, science, literature, and cultural expression, we aim to create a space where Algerian voices and perspectives can be shared, preserved, and celebrated. We recognize that identity is shaped by many influences: heritage, personal experience, language, creativity, and the connections we make across generations.
At the heart of SALAAM is the idea of a mosaic. Every story has its own character and value, and each one contributes to a fuller picture of the Algerian-American experience.
Our mission is to connect generations, explore the many layers of identity, and highlight the stories that make up the Algerian-American experience. We see cultural expression as a way to honor where we come from while making room for the many ways people understand and express who they are today.
SALAAM embraces the diversity within the diaspora. By bringing together different voices, disciplines, and perspectives, we hope to encourage curiosity, understanding, and a sense of belonging that reaches beyond any single definition of identity.
